Karren Kossey – BSc., CRSP


Karren has been in the safety world since the early 90’s as an ergonomist and industrial hygienist. She is the President of ORCA Health and Safety since February 2013 and specializes in project planning, contractor coordination, confined space, chemical auditing, and hazardous materials. She has 15 years of WorkSafeBC inspection experience and is a lead third party compliance auditor for ORCA Health and Safety.

 

Jason Hindson – BSc., CRSP, CHSC


Jason specializes in confined space (CS) hazard assessments as well as training in CS entry, standby, rescue and fall protection. He draws on many years of experience not only working as a safety professional but also managing the safety management system for a large municipality, working as a first responder as well as working and rescuing from height. The clients he works with range from small single site operations to large provincial utilities. He assists with such aspects as documentation, internal/external communications, compliance with WorkSafeBC, onsite assessments, and instruction on a variety of safety and technical rescue topics.

 

Mark Margerison – CRSP


Mark has over 20 years in the health and safety field in a diverse range of industries from Pulp Mills to School Districts to general consulting, Mark’s experience allows him to adapt to each client’s specific needs when providing training, technical documents, investigations and OHS Audits. As one of Orca’s Technical Writers, Mark provides clients with a variety of tailored documents such as comprehensive OHS Programs, Site Safety Management Plans, Emergency Response Plans and Exposure Control Plans. His days are rounded out with ergonomic assessments and assisting with hazardous materials sampling.

 

Robert Brown – CSO, OFA3


Rob has over 30 years of heavy industry experience from sawmills, construction, and consulting. He specializes in bringing his hands-on knowledge to clients through training and consultation on fall protection, fall protection recovery, ladders safety, rigging, lockout and isolation, operating forklifts and elevated work platforms, ground disturbance, electrical safety, chainsaw operation and many more topics. He delivers on contractor management, site safety management plans, and emergency response plans. Rob is one of ORCA’s main inspectors and trainers and brings a real-life spin to safety and compliance. 

Scott Lescak – CRSP


Scott Lescak is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) with over 20 years experience in a number of industries including Waste Management, Mining, Construction, and Marine. In addition to experience within Canada, Scott has experience managing safety in the United Kingdom, as well as the U.S.A. Scott was one of the first auditors in BC to be designated a lead auditor of ISO 45001 and is a member of the CSA Z1002:12 technical committee for the hazard and risk management standard.

Paul Johnston – DTech, RIHT


Paul has extensive expertise developed over 38 years in the Occupational and Environmental Safety field in both public and private sector environments. He is a registered member of the Association of Professional Industrial Hygienists and holds a Diploma in Engineering Technology from the Manitoba Institute of Technology. Paul has managed and authored over 3000 Site Audits, Indoor Air Quality assessments, hazard assessments, and environmental monitoring programs for a wide variety of clients and sites. Paul is a licensed pilot, SCUBA diving instructor, sailor & fisherman in his spare time.

 

Peter Newman


Peter brings many years of experience from WorkSafe B.C. and as a former police officer.  His wide range of experience has prepared him for many topics in health and safety including accident investigations, violence risk assessments, prime contractor, claims management, fall protection and bullying and harassment to name a few. Peter is a team member and brings considerable energy and expertise as a Senior Consultant with ORCA.

 

Kris White – Env., S.Ss. & Dipl.


Kris joined ORCA in 2020 operates our Victoria BC office to better service our clients in southern Vancouver Island.  Kris achieved his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at Royal Roads University and has 18+ years experience in industrial hygiene with a specialty in hazardous materials management. Kris excels at sampling and technical writing for all industrial hygiene topics.

 

Karen Rinfret – Respirator Fit Test Technician


Karen has been part of the Orca Health & Safety Team for over 10 years as our specialist in quantitative and qualitative respirator fit testing and training. She is amazing at ensuring workers understand how to protect themselves against air contaminants and in finding solutions to client needs.  She is passionate and cares about ensuring clients are looked after.

 

Josie Vey – Training Coordinator/ Office Admin


Josie joined Orca in September 2022 as training coordinator and office administrator.  Josie is the one behind the scenes and the screens, and brings with her an extensive background in business operations and customer service from both retail and corporate environments. She is excited to bring these experiences and enthusiasm to the team here at Orca and to our clients. She can’t wait to meet you!

 

Penny Jones – Accounts and Payroll


Penny is our guru at payroll and accounting!  She will make sure you’re paid on time and look after all your accounts payable and accounts receivable questions and needs!
