This course is designed to ensure workers who work directly with asbestos products understand:

  • Hazards associated with asbestos
  • Specifics of the asbestos exposure control plan (ECP) and safe work procedure (SWP)
  • Full suiting in respirators/ Tyvek and a complete mock-up of one safe work procedure including:
    • Tools required
    • Double bagging
    • Decontamination

  2. Safe Work Procedures
    1. Prepping for project (i.e. NOPa, fit testing, traffic control)
    2. Marking out utilities
    3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    4. Methods to expose pipe
    5. Tool usage
      1. What’s allowed
    6. Disposal
      1. How to double bag and double poly wrap – when to use
      2. Discussion on bin liners
    7. Decontamination
      1. Workers
        • Moderate versus high hazard
      2. Equipment
        • Requirement to clean off tools, equipment, excavator etc. prior to leaving excavation
  3. Exposure Control Plan Review
  4. Inventory requirements
    1. Modifying inventories as asbestos is removed or found
  5. Mock-up/ Demonstration by Participants
    1. Site preparation and set-up demonstration – if possible
    2. Suiting up demonstration
    3. SWP and technique demonstration for one SWP
    4. Decontamination and double bagging demonstration
