This course is designed for workers who are not trained in mobile elevated work platform use and are required to operate Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP’s). Safe equipment operation and prevention of injury is the focus of this course. Participants must have fall protection certification and will be trained on the employers MEWP only.

Course Outline / Syllabus
Phase 1 – Theory Review
- The rules and regulations applicable to aerial lift operation
- Variations of equipment types
- Main parts of the Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP)
- Leverage, capacity and stability of the main parts, and their function
- Understanding equipment safety
- Fall protection and when it is needed
- Inspections
- Travel & set up
- Equipment issues
- Parking, shutdown and refueling
- Fuels and batteries
Phase 2 – Theory Evaluation
Written Exam based on the in-class theory training and Operator Reference Manual.
- A minimum score of 70% is required to pass.
Phase 3 – Practical Training
- Trainees are shown the pre-use inspection, safe operating procedures, and parking/shut-down procedures and then given the opportunity to practice while being coached by the instructor.
Phase 4 – Practical Evaluation
- When trainees have reached a minimum skill level, they are individually evaluated using the equipment.
- Following the evaluation, trainees are debriefed and given the opportunity to address any concerns or questions they may have regarding their training.
- The successful trainee’s employer will receive official records and documents via mail.
