This 3 hour course is a fast paced overview of soft tissue injuries for managers, supervisors, JOHS Committee members and workers. The course outlines what typical injuries are, and what terms like epicondylitis and rotator cuff tendonitis mean. It discusses myths and causes of soft tissue injury and directs you toward prevention and controls.

This course is tailored to the specific needs of your organization and with your Safety Management System or OHS Program in mind.

Course Outline / Syllabus

Course participants will understand:

  1. What is all this medical mumbo jumbo? Terminology explained.
  2. Basic Musculoskeletal Injuries (MSI) and what causes them.
  3. MSI risk factors and how the body responds.
  4. MSI Prevention techniques:
    1. Sleeping techniques
    2. Stretching
    3. Choosing tools and equipment for the job

Your instructor for this course would be Karren Kossey. Karren has been practicing ergonomic design and education for more than 20 years. Karren worked as a Regional and Senior Ergonomist with WorkSafe BC and understands industry and the need for practical solutions. Real life stories combined with a realistic and effective approach to musculoskeletal injury (MSI) prevention that will assist your company with developing a thorough understanding of common approaches to handling and preventing MSI’s.
